On Tuesday night my sister (who was up visiting from New
York), my brother, and I won first place at the trivia night held at my
neighborhood bar. That was pretty cool. We won a $25 gift card which we
immediately applied towards the tab we amassed winning trivia night in the
first place. So I guess the trivia taketh and the trivia giveth. The best part
of trivia night is the cool old lady regular who plays every week. She’s
hilarious; she often doesn’t know the answer to questions like “name five of
Quineten Tarantino’s movies” but she came in first place about a month ago. I’ve
never seen someone so happy to win it before. It could only have been better if
she said something like “everyone born after ’58 is a Millenial to me” and
walked out without paying her tab. Good times.
Oh and I found out THIS is happening next week.
My god I was so excited to find out that this is a thing.
This movie was the subject of my first cinematic experience at the tender age
of 6, where I got to witness Optimus Prime die on a robot operating room table,
an event which I’m sure did not have a lasting effect on my psyche. I can’t
really say that it’s a GOOD movie, but I watched it approximately 4,832,621
times as a child and as so it has a warm place within my heart. My brother,
cousins, a close friend, and myself are going and will assuredly enjoy the
everlasting shit out of 90 minutes of 80’s cartoon violence and the awful hair
metal soundtrack. I can already taste the M&M’s on my popcorn.
The city of Providence holds an event called Water Fire
periodically throughout the summer, stretching into the early autumn, and I
went with a friend on Saturday night. Around the area of the Providence Place
Mall is a water way along the center of which is a row of columns topped with
braziers, and people in boats light them with torches as classical music plays
from the PA system. It’s all free, and there are food, drink, and merchandise
vendors. Just saying, it seems like a great place to take a date.
And I discovered this beautiful, talented violinist this
week.
I'll leave you with this video of her performing Bohemian Rhapsody. I’m in love.
